About Jim Lieb

A chance meeting in 1973 with a school mate, at the College of William and Mary , started me on my journey to be a potter. The student was transporting a box of pots back to the dorm from his ceramics class and I sat in the seat behind him on the campus bus. "You made these pots in a class?" "I want to learn how to do that!" After that, there was no looking back.

Fast forward forty some years and I am still making pottery. Having recently retired from a career teaching special needs students, I am now focused on being a potter. I enjoy making functional work using a variety of methods and surface decoration techniques.

Working at my home studio in the Virginia Hills area of Alexandria, Virginia and taking classes at the Art League in Old Town Alexandria, I am excited to be able to spend more of my time making pottery. I want to continue to "learn how to do that" as I am committed to being a lifelong student of the art of making ceramics.
